Eye protection must be worn at all times when in the playing area., No running , No going prone, No headshots. Do not move furniture or any campus property to alter the play space. Do not enter marked off areas. There is no minimum engagement distance (how close you can be before tagging someone), but use discretion when tagging someone up-close. Blasters must have a blaze orange tip and proper safety markings. "Realistic" paint jobs are not allowed. The FPS cap for blasters is 160fps. Take regular water breaks. Voberrys and any homemade dart are NOT ALLOWED. The harder plastic tips can be painful at higher FPS caps. Full and half length darts will be provided. In the event of a medical emergency, NOTIFY STAFF IMMEDIATELY by calling for a cease fire in your area. Staff will react accordingly depending on the severity of the emergency.
Blaster requirements NO REALISTIC PAINT JOBS., No Rival (the ball ammo)., No ejecting shells without a shell catcher., No arrows, with the exception of the Nerf Zombiestrike Dreadbolt., 160 FPS cap., Homebrew is allowed! We have a fine collection of inventors in the Western New York Nerf community and would love to see your super villain ideas! If you are one of the mad few to have obtained a Greg, they must be tuned lower than other blasters, capping out at 130 FPS. Though they are safe to use at 160 FPS, we ask you do this simply as a precaution. Hefty Gregs are NOT ALLOWED, with the exception of the original for demonstrations by the inventor. Other variations will be judged as they are invented.
Regarding special dart types:
Darts such as Mega, MegaXL, Ultra, and N-Series are not provided by the event. These are the only dart types which players are allowed to bring, however they MUST BE HASBRO BRAND, NOT KNOCK-OFF'S.
Demolisher missiles, Titan missiles, and Blazin Bow missiles are the only exception to the homemade dart rule, however they must be submitted for inspection before being used. Though they are more accurate, Rival and other ball ammo types are not allowed as large piles of them pose a serious slipping risk in the three story play space we use.
Throwables, or "rocks", are NOT ALLOWED. Rocks come in all shapes and sizes, and are made from all sorts of different materials. This makes them unpredictable in terms of safe usage.
Game modes
Capture the Flag:
Each team has one flag and has 30 minutes to capture the enemy team's flag. • Respawns are unlimited • A player carrying the flag must drop it immediately when tagged. A referee will place it in the appropriate spot if it slides on the ground. • Players may not move their flag back to base once it has been moved. • Variation: One Flag CTF: One team defends while the attacking team attempts to invade their base. An attacking player must make physical contact with the flag to win. Respawns are limited. Attacking team has twice as many respawns as defending team., Team Deathmatch: Each team has limited respawns. First team to lose all their respawns or have the lower amount of tickets by the time the game ends loses. • Number of spawns is (team player count)x3. Each player effectively has three respawns, but it's also a shared pool. Players may respawn as many times as they want, but it will take spawns away from their teammates.
Player tips
• Call your hits! Nerf is a game that works on the honor system, so act accordingly. No one likes a cheater! • If you want to avoid getting hit in the head, give other players more to aim at. Don't be afraid to lean out a little, or maybe even take a charge; It's only foam! • Keep the playspace clean. The college is gracious enough to let us use the Student Union for our foolishness, so let's show some gratitude back. Leave no trace! • Sportsmanship is crucial! Remember to lose and win with grace. There will be a time to cheer and celebrate, but remember to say GG. • Keep your team marker in a visible spot at all times. Good choices are your front facing wrist (the one at the front of the blaster), your forehead, your forearm, or your bicep. Vets use old markers from previous years to decorate their blasters, so don't put it there! • WATER!! WATER!! WATER!! There are water fountains all over the Student Union, as well as two safe areas at each base to hydrate and fill up water bottles or camelbags. If at any point you feel dehydrated, call yourself out, get a drink from the nearest fountain, and return to base for a breather. The game is fun, but it's not worth your life! • If youve actually read this far, ask Chompy, "Whats a wormdew?" • The term, "Cease fire!" Is for emergency situations. When a non-player is attempting to move through the play space, simply yell, "Civilian!" To notify other players of their arrival and, "Civilian gone!" When theyve left the area... • ... However some civilians enjoy being in the fray! If you see someone with a musical instrument, prop item, or camera, don't mind them; Theyve covered this war before, ya know. • Help us help you make a better con! If you think you have a way to contribute to the Nerf War, the con in general, or just have a fun panel idea, ask about volunteering. Chompy wants YOU to make the UBcon of tomorrow!
